For some fishing is a wonderful, relaxing pastime while for others it is a challenging, exciting, satisfying sport. All those who fish need to perform many tasks including luring, angling, clearing hooks, and unhooking fish. To help them do this with greater efficiency fishing rod holders have been developed. This allows the fisher the use of both hands without letting go of the fishing rod. By applying tension on the fish, the fishing rod holder also helps keep the fish on the line.

Earlier designs of fishing rod holders saw the use of two pole clips and two straps. The straps attached to the fishers wrist or forearm and ankle or leg. Today the newer fishing rod holders are outfitted with acupressure stimulators. As long as the rod holder stays secured to the fisher during the boat trip it can cure seasickness. Fishing rod holders are ideal for the unstable rocky terrain of fly-fishing, whilst strong, heavy duty, monster rod holders are great for catching large ocean fish.

On the whole fishing rod holders make the fishing experience a whole lot more relaxing, enjoyable and successful by making it easier to perform the many tasks required and by ensuring that the rod is secure. This, in turn, provides an even greater chance of catching that elusive fish fighting so hard to get off the hook. Fishing rod holders can also be attached to a boat, offering good storage options as well as allowing trolling from one fishing place to another. Once again it keeps the rods more secure and it provides for the use of multiple rods and in turn more strikes.
